The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) was founded by a young Christian, George Williams, with a group of other young men in London on 6th June 1844. By 1851, the Movement blazed across Britain, Europe and USA and in 1855, the World Alliance of YMCAs was created with Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Uganda YMCA was founded in Kampala, in 1959.
This period of transition, while challenging, proved pivotal in shaping the organization’s trajectory. Recognizing the pressing need for accessible education, the initiative evolved into Global Vision Secondary School, a tangible manifestation of Hannington’s commitment to youth development. Today, Global Vision Secondary School stands as a testament to resilience and adaptation, continuing to provide valuable educational services within the community.
The year 2024 marked a significant milestone in the organization’s history. After years of dedicated effort and community engagement, the organization achieved full recognition from the National Council of Uganda YMCA, solidifying its position as a vital contributor to youth empowerment. This formal recognition, coupled with its affiliation under the YMCA Mbale Branch, opened new avenues for collaboration and resource mobilization, further amplifying its impact. The affiliation with the YMCA, a globally recognized organization, brought with it a wealth.
At the heart of our mission lies a deep-seated desire to rekindle hope and empower young individuals who have faced adversity and lost sight of their dreams. We strive to create a nurturing environment where young people can access quality education, develop essential life skills, and cultivate a sense of purpose.
